Mapping Prejudice is based at the John R. Borchert Map Library of the University of Minnesota Libraries.cite-ref-3[3] The project originally searched property records in Hennepin County, identified racial covenants that were made in order to stop non-Whites from purchasing certain properties, and plotted the results of them on digital maps.cite-ref-about-2-1[2] Their focus began with Minneapolis. The project has grown to include Ramsey County, Minnesota;cite-ref-4[4] Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Dakota County, Minnesota;cite-ref-0-5-0[5] Stearns County, Minnesota,cite-ref-6[6] and Anoka County, Minnesota.cite-ref-0-5-1[5]cite-ref-7[7] Founded in 2016, Mapping Prejudice was inspired by work at universitiescite-ref-brookings-8-0[8] in Seattlecite-ref-9[9] and Virginia.cite-ref-10[10]
The project, along with Hennepin County, received the 2021 Freedom of Information award from the Minnesota Coalition on Government Information (MNCOGI).cite-ref-11[11]
